Scholarships

Students can search for millions of scholarships online through websites like www.fastweb.com.  Below are some scholarships that have been available to Claysburg-Kimmel students in the past. Not all scholarships are available every year and deadlines and eligibility vary each year. It is recommended that students submit applications before the deadline to avoid any problems.

Penn State Micro-Scholarship Program - Students in grades 9-12 are eligible to participate and can earn up to $4000/year for a total of $16,000 by enrolling and participating in the online grant. Scholarships are primarily available to prospective Penn State students, however, there are several other universities that are now participating in the program. Go to

Pennsylvania American Legion Scholarships- Numerous scholarships available to 9th-12th grade students. Please visit

Nason Foundation Healthcare Scholarship - Awarded to both current seniors and current college students planning to major or currently majoring in a healthcare field. Examples include: physicians, nursing, medical tech, radiology, physician's assistant, and other health related fields. Must be accepted to the appropriate training program, be in good academic standing with at least a 3.0 GPA, and demonstrate community involvement. Applications are available in the school counseling office and can also be found online at: nasonfoundation.org. No application deadline and students can reapply each year.  

Heisman High School Scholarship – The award honors both male and female high school students who excel in academics, athletics, and student leadership. Eligibility for the application is limited to high school seniors. Go to: https://heismanscholarship.com/ for more information. Deadline October 18.

AES Engineers Scholarship - Go to https://aesengineers.com/scholarships.php to apply. Deadline October 8.

Horatio Alger Association Scholarship—Students must be enrolled as a full-time high school senior with plans to enter a 4-year college at an accredited institution located in the United States (students may start their studies at a two-year institution and then transfer to a four-year institution.) Critical financial need ($50,000 or less adjusted gross income per family is preferred, if higher explanation must be provided) Students must be involved in extracurricular and community activities, demonstrate integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity, and maintain a grade point average of 2.0. ACT Student Champion Scholarship - This award recognizes one student in each state who has taken the ACTs. Students must have a composite ACT score of 22 on a single test date or a 3.0 GPA. Deadline October 31

Coca-Cola ScholarshipStudents must be planning on pursuing a degree at an accredited US post-secondary institution and currently carrying a 3.0 GPA at the end of their junior year. For more information visit

ELKS - Most Valuable Students Scholarship Application—The Elks National Foundation awards 500 four-year scholarships based on academics, leadership, and financial need for seniors planning on pursuing a four-year degree. For more information go to:

Champs Sports Scholarship - Simply submit a photo of yourself and write an essay up to 300 words telling how you are a "Champs Sports Champion on the field, in the classroom or in the community.  Deadline November 14.

DAR Good Citizen Committee Scholarship Contest—One student is voted as the school’s “Good Citizen”—meeting the following DAR standards—Dependability, Service, Leadership, Patriotism.  Essay of 500 words is required. Deadline is December 5.

Penn Highlands - Board of Trustees Academic Scholarship - Full Tuition - High School seniors with a GPA of a 3.5 are eligible to apply. Students should be accepted to Penn Highlands and fill out the Board of Trustees Scholarship by visiting https://pennhighlands.awardspring.com/. Deadline November 30

WTS Central PA Scholarships - Numerous scholarships are open to female high school students interested in post-secondary education in transportation. Applications are available

AXA Achievement Scholarship- Students must demonstrate the following characteristics: Ambition, drive, determination to set and reach goals, respect for self, family and community, and the ability to succeed in college. Deadline December 14.

Burger King Scholars Program - Students must be high school seniors and have at least a 2.5 GPA. Please visit: bk-scholars.com

PB&J Scholarship - This scholarship is trying to fill the gap for high school seniors who don't have high GPAs and have experienced personal challenges that may not have allowed them to perform well academically. Examples of personal challenges include, but are not limited to:  Medical Issues; Change of Schools; and/or Family issues - Divorce, Death, Income, Homelessness, Foster Care, etc... National Wild Turkey Foundation Scholarship - Students must hold a current NWTF membership, support the preservation of the hunting tradition and actively participate in hunting sports, be pursuing a degree at an accredited institution of higher education and have a GPA of a 3.0. Applications are available at: your.nwft.org/scholarships. Deadline February 1

Central Pennsylvania Mensa Scholarship- The only eligibility requirements are that the applicant be enrolled, for the academic year following the award, in a degree program in an accredited American institute of post-secondary education and be a resident of the area of participating local group of American Mensa. Awards are made in amounts ranging from $300 to $1000.  Please visit

Pennsylvania JCI Senate Scholarship ProgramThe U.S. Junior Chamber International (JCI) Senate Foundation will be granting two $750 scholarships to graduating high school seniors who plan to continue their education at accredited post-secondary colleges, universities, or vocational schools. Checks awarded will be made out in the name of the recipient and the educational institution of the recipient’s choice. Interested students should go to

Grow Ag Leaders Scholarship- Interested students can apply at:

KFC Colonel's Scholars Program—Up to $5,000 per year of college could be awarded to you to help cover the costs of tuition, fees, books, and room and board. Please go to

Johnstown Tomahawks High School Senior Scholarship: The Johnstown Tomahawks Foundation will award one $1000 scholarship to a local high school senior who will graduate with the Class of 2023. Current high school senior at a school district located in Cambria, Somerset, Indiana, Westmoreland, Bedford, and Blair County who has participated in community service during their high school career. Applications are online at cfalleghenies.org/scholarships. Deadline February 23

HVAC ScholarshipAwarded by the EGIA Foundation to senior or recent high school graduates with a minimum GPA of 2.0 who enrolls in an HVAC technical program for an entire school year after high school. To apply to win the $2,500 scholarship, go to:

Primary Health Network Charitable Foundation Scholarship - Seniors who reside in Blair County who will be pursuing studies in the medical field or allied health care field are eligible to apply.  Visit:  primary-health.net/our-foundation

Best Buy Scholarships- Students in grades 9-12 who have solid grades plus community service or work experience are eligible. Deadline February 15.

Cargill Community Scholarship Program - Interested students should visitwww.ffa.org keyword: scholarship to apply.  Students do not have to be in FFA to apply. This program awards $1,000 scholarships to 350 high school seniors in the U.S. who live in a community where Cargill has a business presence. Students are selected based on academic achievement and leadership in extracurricular and civic activities. Each applicant must have a signature from a Cargill employee on the application--visit Cargill Animal Nutrition 392 Frederick Road, Martinsburg, PA. The PACB Foundation Scholarship Fund—Applicants must be a dependent child of a parent working at least 1,000 hours per year, for a minimum of two years, for a regular member of the Pennsylvania Association of Community Bankers. See Ms. Hinkledire for an application. Deadline February 23

Jeff Koppel Memorial Head Start Scholarship: Awarded by the Pennsylvania Head Start Association to graduating seniors who participated in a Head Start Program. Students must also have been accepted in a post-secondary school. Applications were emailed to Seniors in January. Copies are available in the guidance office and available online at

Buick Achievers Scholarship Program- Seniors who will be enrolling at a four-year college, majoring in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, Business Administration, Finance, Marketing or Design, and who are interested in a career in the automotive or related industries are eligible.  Deadline February 27

Big 33 Scholarship—Current high school seniors who are enrolled in a public or accredited private school in Ohio or Pennsylvania, who have attained a 2.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA on a 4.0 scale) for the previous two academic years (grades 10 and 11) and who are planning to continue his/her education beyond high school in an accredited institution of higher education or technical school. Norfolk Southern - High School juniors who are sons or daughters of active, retired, or deceased employees of Norfolk Southern who plan to enter college in 2014 are eligible to apply. The National Merit Scholarship Corporations administers the program so students must also participate in the PSAT. Deadline February 28.

PSECU Scholarship—Students must be a member by December 31st to be eligible. You can receive more information on the scholarship application process and membership requirements by visiting the website at https://go.psecu.com/scholarships. Deadline February 28.

Bedford Rural Electric Cooperative Scholarship—Students interested in continuing their education at a 2- or 4-year accredited post-secondary institution, and the parents or guardian primary residence must be served by the cooperative. Applicants are required to submit a 300 word essay describing whey they deserve the scholarship. Applications were emailed to students in January. Applications are also available online at

Blackwood Music Scholarship - Awarded to high school seniors intending to pursue a career in instrumental music performance. For eligibility requirements and an application go to

Hermine Solt Student Scholarship- A $500 scholarship for a student seeking higher education in a business-related field.  Interested students should visit

Pennsylvania House of Representative Scholarship - Available to PA high school seniors with a minimum of a 3.0 GPA who are planning on attending a PA college, university, or career school. Students are also considered based on the following: commitment to their community, leadership qualities, extracurricular activities, and financial need. Applications are available at https://www.tfec.org/. Deadline March 1

First Commonwealth Bank Scholarship - $1,000 Scholarship available for seniors who engage in their community and who excel in the classroom. Additional eligibility requirements along with the application - available online at

Through the Looking Glass and its National Center for Parents with Disabilities and their Families—Students must have at least one parent with a disability. For more detailed information please visit the website at https://lookingglass.org/.  Deadline March 5.

The Arthur D. and Kay L. Walter Memorial Scholarship - Awarded to a graduating senior from Claysburg-Kimmel High School with a cumulative GPA of a 90% or higher - preference given to students entering a 4-year degree program in a STEM related field. Applications are available in the guidance office. Applications should be returned guidance no later than the end of the school day on March 6

Carl S. Russo Memorial Scholarship – Awarded to a graduating senior from a Blair County High School. Eligibility requirements: Academic Excellence, Community Service, Leadership Skills, must be seeking an Associate Degree or higher. Applications email to seniors. Paper applications are also available in the guidance office. Applications should be submitted to guidance no later than the end of school on March 6.


Donna Sheehan Nursing Scholarship—This scholarship is for students interested in a career in nursing. Applications are available in the guidance office. Applications should be returned to the school counseling office no later than the end of the school day on March 6.

The John E. and Elaine M. Smith Education Scholarship for Business Majors - Applicants must be a senior entering a business field and has a financial need. Applications are in the guidance office. Applications should be returned to the school counseling office no later than the end of the school day on March 6.

The John E. and Elaine M. Smith Education Scholarship for Education Majors - Applicants must be a senior entering the field of education and has a financial need. Applications are in the guidance office. Applications should be returned to the school counseling office no later than the end of the school day on March 6. 

The Patrick Wise Sr. Memorial Scholarship - Open to any senior graduating from a Blair County High School. Applications are available in the guidance office. Applications should be returned to the school counseling office no later than the end of the school day on March 6.

The Zachary S. Hoover Memorial Scholarship - Awarded to a senior graduating from a Blair County High School, have a GPA of a 3.0, and be accepted into the Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology program at Penn State Altoona. Applications are available in the guidance office. Completed applications should be returned to guidance no later than the end of the school day on March 6.  

Pennsylvania School Public Relations Association (PenSPRA) Scholarship - The award consists of three one-year scholarships worth $1000 each. Scholarships will be awarded to two students from each of the PenSPRA's three regions: East, West, and Central. The scholarship will be awarded to worthy high school students who plan to pursue a career in a communications field (i.e., journalism, English, public relations, advertising, graphic arts, etc...) The candidate should have maintained a 3.0 GPA and have been accepted to or applied at a two or four-year college, vocational-technical school, or other institution of higher learning. Deadline March 9.

The P. Jules and Pamela J. Patt Memorial Scholarship - Awarded to a graduating senior at a Blair County High School who has a minimum GPA of a 3.0. Students must be accepted into a bachelor’s degree program and have participated in high school sports. Applications are available in the school counseling office. Applications should be returned to the guidance office by the end of the school day on March 6.

The Zack Hinish Foundation Scholarship - Special Education - Seniors graduating from any Blair County High School are eligible. Applicants must be a Special Education Major intending to receive either a B.S. or B.A. degree. Applications are available in the guidance office. Applications should be returned to the school counseling office no later than the end of the school day on March 6

The Zack Hinish Foundation Scholarship - Nursing - Seniors graduating from any Blair County High School are eligible. Applicants must be a Nursing Major intending to receive either a B.S. or B.A. degree. Applications are available in the guidance office. Applications should be returned to the school counseling office no later than the end of the school day on March 6

The Bonnie and Robert Decker Scholarship - $1000 scholarship awarded to a senior graduating from a Blair County High School. Students must be pursuing a post-secondary education. Application is due to guidance on or before March 6.

Cove Adoptive Families Scholarship - $1000 scholarship to a senior graduating from a Blair or Bedford County High School, who has been legally adopted, who has a minimum of a 3.0 GPA, and who has been accepted into a post-secondary program. Deadline March 10.

Because We Care Foundation Scholarship - Criminal Justice - Awarded to a graduating senior from a Blair County school seeking a post-secondary education in criminal Justice. Applications are available in the school counseling office. Deadline March 10.

Because We Care Foundation Scholarship - Early Childhood Development - Awarded to a graduating senior from a Blair County school seeking a post-secondary education in early childhood development. Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline March 10.

Bessie Levine Memorial Nursing Scholarship—Applicants must be pursuing a degree in nursing. Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline March 10

Blair County Civic Music Foundation Scholarship - Applicants must be a resident of Blair County and be pursuing study/training in the performing arts. Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline March 10

The Blair County United Survivor Scholarship - Sponsored by the Scott Garlick Memorial Foundation. Awarded to a graduating senior from a Blair County school who has had a family member that was a victim of a violent crime resulting in the death of that family member. Must be attending a post-secondary education. Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline March 10.  

The Blair Gastroenterology Associates "Guts and Glory" Scholarship - Open to seniors graduating in Blair and Bedford County who has or has a family member who has Crohn’s or Colitis. Students must be accepted into a post-secondary school. Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline March 10.

Blair Type 1 Diabetes Foundation Scholarship - Two - $2000 scholarships will be awarded to a Blair County High School senior whose life has been impacted by the diagnosis of type 1 diabetes and who is pursuing a post-secondary education. Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline March 10

CPCF Board of Directors Memorial Scholarship - $1000 Scholarship awarded to a student graduating from a Blair County High School and seeking a post-secondary education. Deadline March 10.

The David D. Brozgal Memorial Scholarship - This scholarship is for students pursuing training in a medical field at a post-secondary school and have a GPA of a 3.75 or higher. Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline March 10

The Kiwanis Club of Altoona -Scholarship for incoming freshmen from Blair County who enroll in a degree program at Penn State Altoona. See Ms. Hinkledire for an application. Deadline March 31.

Scott Douglas Sparks Memorial Scholarship—This scholarship is for students interested in majoring in science, math, linguistics, or international studies. Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline March 10

The William E. (Bill) Frank & Swiss Club of Altoona Memorial Scholarship - Priority will be given to students who have a parent, stepparent or grandparent that is a member in good standing of the Swiss Club of Altoona. Any senior who has been accepted to a post-secondary school with financial need is eligible to apply. Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline March 10

Todd Gardner Sparks Performing Arts Memorial Scholarship
- Available to a graduating senior from a Blair County High School who is attending a 4-year post-secondary educational institution who is majoring in Performing Arts/Theater Arts. Preference will be given to applicants attending Penn State Altoona or Shenandoah University/Conservatory of Music. Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline March 10

The Oakes Family Scholarship- Applicants must be graduating from a Blair County High School, attending a post-secondary educational institution in Bedford, Blair, Cambria, Clearfield, or Huntingdon County, and majoring in accounting. Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline March 10

VIP 2 Scholarship – Available to a graduating senior from a Blair County school that is seeking a post-secondary education. 300-word essay on “Why you think community service is important.” Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline March 11.

Western Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association - Three $2000 scholarships available for seniors based on the top three essay submissions.  Applications are available in the guidance office and were emailed to students. Return completed application to guidance by March 17. Do not submit your application and essay directly to the WPTLA or you will be disqualified.

Janice M. Scott Memorial Scholarship Fund—Students must have a GPA 2.5 or higher, be accepted at an accredited four-year college or university, and have demonstrated leadership through community service, extracurricular or other activities. Please see Ms. Hinkledire for more information. Deadline March 15.

United Steel Workers – District 10 Scholarship—An applicant must be a member in good standing, or the son or daughter of a member of a United Steelworkers, District 10 local union participating in the Scholarship program, or the son or daughter of a disabled or retired, or deceased member of an affiliated local union who was in good standing with the United Steelworkers at the time of retirement or death.  Applications may be obtained upon request from participating local unions. SATs should be taken by no later than the January test date. Application deadline March 15.  

PICPA High School Senior Scholarship - Awarded to students attending a Pennsylvania high school interested in majoring in accounting. To apply visit:

ARC Federal Credit Union Scholarship—A parent or guardian must be a member as of the date of the application. If you have any questions or to request an application, please see Ms. Hinkledire. Application deadline March 19.

Heidelberg Country Club Scholarship - Presented by the Heidelberg Country Club to a senior intending to further their education. Applicants should have a GPA of 3.0 and/or a score of 1500 on their SATs. Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline March 20.

The Pennsylvania Association of Medical Suppliers Scholarship—Students who have overcome physical challenges with the help of home medical equipment and supplies are eligible to apply. See Ms. Hinkledire for an application or more information. Deadline March 20.

Charles R. "Butch" Metzgar Scholarship - awarded in honor of Charles R. "Butch" Metzgar, a graduate of Claysburg-Kimmel, businessman and entrepreneur in the Claysburg area to a student who plans to attend a post-secondary trade or technical school and who plans to remain in the Claysburg area after completing his/her degree to pursue a career as an entrepreneur, promoting business in the Claysburg area and creating employment opportunities for other Claysburg residents. Deadline March 17

Claysburg Area Community Scholarship – presented by the Claysburg Bicentennial Committee to honor a graduating senior.  The award recognizes a student who has given time and talent to his/her family, school, and community. Deadline March 17.

Claysburg Legion Band Award – presented to two members of the high school band. Deadline March 17.

Claysburg Rotary Scholarship - The Claysburg Rotary Club will award this scholarship in the amount of $300 to a senior demonstrating dedicated involvement in school, family, and community activities. The student must be pursuing a two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational/technical school. Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline March 17.

D.E. Brumbaugh Memorial Scholarship – presented by the estate of D. Emmert Brumbaugh to a graduate planning to attend a post-secondary institution.  Deadline March 17.

D Michael Claycomb Athletic Fund - Scholarships will be awarded to a male and female athlete attending a post-secondary program. Applications are due to Tammy Claycomb - 141 Norwood Street Bedford, PA 15522. See Ms. Hinkledire for an application. Deadline March 17.

Keith Claycomb Scholarship - awarded to a male and female student who have attended a welding, fire/rescue/EMS course through CK or the GACTC. Deadline March 17.

Darla Jean Burket Memorial Scholarship Award – Established by the Burkett Family to honor Darla Jean Burket. $1000 scholarship to a graduating senior who plans to pursue a career in helping children/youth (i.e., Social Worker, Educator, Pediatric Nurse, Youth Minister, etc..) Applications emailed to seniors and are also available in the school counseling office. Deadline March 17

Jack D. Burkett Memorial Scholarship Award – Established by the Burkett Family to honor Jack D. Burkett. $1000 scholarship to a graduating senior wrestler who plans on pursing a degree at a four-year college or trade or technical school. Applications emailed to seniors and are also available in the school counseling office. Deadline March 17


The Kristen E. Aungst Memorial Scholarship - g
iven in memory of Miss Kristen E. Aungst, a dedicated student and cherished member of the class of 2011, awarded to a CK graduating student pursuing a two- or four-year degree. Deadline March 17.

Levi H. Walter Scholarship – 
presented by the estate of Bruce Walter to honor his father Levi H. Walter, an educator from Kimmel Township.  This award is given to a student pursuing a post-secondary education. Deadline March 17

M. A. Dively Book Award – presented in memory of M. A. Dively who devoted his life to education and served many years as the Superintendent of Blair County Public Schools, by his daughter, Mrs. Jennie Gardner.  This is awarded to a student of the graduating class who has demonstrated outstanding ability, achievement, interest in English composition and English literature. Deadline March 17.   

McEldowney Academic Scholarship - This scholarship was created to honor the memory of Dick McEldowney, successful Altoona businessman, to support our youth in their dreams of higher education. Applicants must be involved in a community service and should fall into a middle-income bracket. Application due to guidance on or before March 17.

The Summer N. (Yingling) Hetrick Memorial Scholarship - Established by her husband Greg, her parents Allan & Romona, as well as by numerous family members and close friends to recognize and honor Summer’s adoration for the community of Claysburg. Summer was a 1996 graduate of Claysburg-Kimmel High School and was a longtime volunteer and supporter of the Claysburg Volunteer Fire Company. Applications were emailed to seniors. Deadline March 17

Warren C. McCarty Memorial Award – given by the Claysburg-Kimmel Education Association to a student planning to enter teaching profession. Deadline March 17.     

William Roy Walter "WWII P.O.W." Armed Forces Award - Presented in memory of William Roy Walter a 1940 graduate of Claysburg by his daughter Diana G. Walter-Dively. Students can be awarded $150-$300 and a plaque. Preference will be given to any senior enlisting in the armed services. See Ms. Hinkledire for an application. Deadline March 17

The Claysburg Volunteer Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial Scholarship Award – Presented by the Claysburg Volunteer Fire Company in memory of all the local fallen firefighters in the hopes of encouraging volunteerism in the Claysburg community. March 17.

Bedford Business and Professional Women’s Scholars—Scholarship given to a female student at a Bedford County school graduating this spring, planning to attend a two- or four-year college.  Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline March 31.


Health Professions Scholarships - (Includes: Dr. Bert & Lucille Wiley, Mary Pearl Hunt, Blackburn, and Obert Scholarships) -  Awarded by the Memorial hospital of Bedford County Foundation to Bedford County students aspiring to a career in health care. Deadline March 31.

The Jaffa Shrine Highlanders Scholarship - This scholarship is open to all seniors and you do NOT need to have a family member in the Shrine. Deadline for applications to be turned into Guidance: March 30

 Mike Rowe Work Ethic Scholarship Program - Mike Rowe Works Foundation gives scholarships to Pennsylvanians interested in pursuing a career in the skilled trades. Students interested in applying should visit https://www.mikeroweworks.org/scholarship//. Deadline March 31.  


National Federation of the Blind Scholarship

Valley Rural Electric Cooperative, Inc Scholarship - $1000 Scholarship for students who are a Valley REC member or students who are a dependent of a Valley REC member. The Carol Jo Scheneder "Mrs. S" $4000 Memorial Scholarship

Epilepsy Foundation Western/Central Pennsylvania—Students must have a diagnosis of epilepsy/seizure disorder confirmed by a physician, have been accepted to a post-secondary academic or vocational program and be a legal resident of Western/Central PA. The Keppra Family Epilepsy Scholarship Program
—Students must be an epilepsy patient or a family member/caregiver of an epilepsy patient, seeking an undergraduate degree, demonstrates academic achievement, possesses a strong record of participating in activities outside of school and serves as a strong role model. Deadline April 1.

Pennsylvania Land Surveyors Foundation - Any senior pursuing a Bachelor of Science Degree or Associate Degree in Land Surveying. Instructions, eligibility requirements and applications are available at https://www.psls.org/scholarship. Deadline April 30.

Blair County Tea Party Scholarship
$1000 awarded to a Blair County High School graduate who plans on attending college or other educational pursuit this fall. Students must write a 500-word essay on the Constitution. Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline March 31.

Blair Garden Club of Altoona Scholarship—Any senior planning on majoring in agriculture science, horticulture, floriculture, landscape architecture, forestry, botany, or plant pathology is eligible to apply. Applications were emailed to seniors and paper copies are available in the school counseling office. Deadline April 5.

Blair County Bar Association Scholarship—Applicants should be planning to enroll in a full-time degree program at an accredited college or university. Only applications for students in the upper 10 percent of their class will be considered.  If you have any questions or to request an application, please see Ms. Hinkledire. Deadline March 19.

Cesare Battisti Club Scholarship
—The Cesare Battisti Club has begun a yearly scholarship program for graduating seniors intending on furthering their education and who have at least one immediate family member (parent/guardian, sibling, grandparent) who is an active member for at least one year at the Cesare Battisti Club. Deadline April 10.


Horatio Alger Career and Technical Scholarship - Given to a high school senior exhibiting a strong commitment to pursue and complete a career or technical program at an accredited non-profit post-secondary institution. Kids Chance of Pennsylvania Scholarship- Students who have a parent who has been killed/seriously injured as a result or a work-related accident that meets the criteria of the PA Worker's Compensation Act and that has demonstrated financial need. The United Survivors Memorial Scholarship
- Given by the Victim/Witness Program at the District Attorney's Office. Students must be planning on attending a post-secondary school and have lost a family member, relative or close friend to a violent crime. See Ms. Hinkledire for an application. Deadline April 15.

William "Billy" Charles Garber - Military Memorial Scholarship
 - Presented in memory of William "Billy" Charles Garber by his parents Charles and Anna (Roberts) Garber & Family along with the Marauders MC INC Veterans Motorcycle Club. $500 scholarship awarded to a graduating senior from Claysburg-Kimmel High School who has enlisted in the Armed Forces. Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline May 27.

Bedford Grange Mutual Scholarship -
Awards to children of Bedford Grange Mutual Insurance Company Policy Holders. Application is open to high school seniors who plan to attend a college, university, or trade/technical school in the fall, as well as collegiate freshmen, sophomores, and juniors. Larry J. McGiboney Music Scholarship
 - Scholarship awarded to one senior at a local high school, with preference given to a Windber High School student, and/or a student of Pennsylvania Music Educators Association District 6, who plans to attend college with a major in music. Applications can be accessed and completed at:  https://www.cfalleghenies.org/scholarships/. McCready Family Scholarship - Scholarship award to a high school graduate from Cambria, Somerset or Bedford County who plans to pursue an academic degree relating to communications, journalism, or English at UPJ. The Bryan Chamberlain Scholarship Award: Established by the Chamberlain family to honor their son Bryan Chamberlain - a 2006 Claysburg-Kimmel graduate who pursued a career as a truck driver/heavy equipment operator. $500 scholarship to a senior who plans to attend a post-secondary trade or technical school to become a heavy equipment operator or truck driver. Student-View Scholarship Program
High school seniors who plan to attend a 4-year college, community/junior college or career school can simply log on to: http://www.student-view.com/and complete a 15–20-minute application survey about colleges in your area. The scholarship will be awarded through a random drawing of all completed applications. The scholarship winner will be announced in May. Deadline April 22

Edgar Snyder and Associates “Words to be Heard” Scholarship Contest
—Students are required to either create a presentation that discourages underage drinking and driving, or create a proposal to prevent distracted driving, such as texting while driving.  Applications are available online at https://www.edgarsnyder.com/. Deadline April 26.

United States Bowling Congress - Altoona District Scholarship 
- $500 Scholarship awarded to a high school senior who is a member of the Altoona District USBC Association. Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline April 26

 

George S. Dively & Jennie Dively Gardner Scholarship – Awarded to graduating seniors - $1,000 for the first year, renewable up to $1,000 per year for three additional years upon proof of continued successful enrollment in a post-secondary program. Applicants will be considered based on the following criteria: scholarship, character traits, school involvement, leadership qualities, school attendance, and community and home involvement. Applications are available in the guidance office. Applications should be emailed to [email protected] by April 30.

 

The Bruno and Lena Degol Family Foundation Scholarship - $1,500 award given by the Claysburg Area Education Foundation in memory of Donald E. Witherspoon. The scholarship will be a one-time payment used toward attaining a bachelor’s degree. To be eligible, student must be a current student at Claysburg-Kimmel and who have attended the school for a minimum of two full school years and have a GPA of 2.7. Blair County Retired Teachers Association—A $1000 scholarship to a deserving graduate of a Blair County high school. The selection will be based on the student’s enrollment for the coming summer/fall semester in an accredited college pursuing a degree leading to a teaching certificate. The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International
An organization composed of key women educators award a $500 grant-in-aid to a graduating senior from Blair, Cambria, or Clearfield County. Students must plan on majoring in education.  If you have any questions or to request an application, please see Ms. Hinkledire. Deadline April 30

Pittsburgh Regional Food Service Directors Scholarship—Students must be planning on enrolling at an institution of higher learning majoring in a food service-related field and be maintaining at least a 3.0 grade point average. For an application, please see Ms. Hinkledire. Deadline April 30.

Sweat 4 Vets Scholarship - $1000 to an individual that has a family member who is a veteran. One scholarship to each of the following counties - Blair, Center, Cambria, and Bedford. Scholarship applications were emailed to seniors and are also available in the guidance office. Deadline April 1.

Blair County Law Enforcment Officers Memorial Foundation Scholarship

The Stephen V. Mielnik Memorial Scholarship
 - This scholarship is presented by the Blair/Clearfield Association for the Blind and awards $1000 to a graduating senior planning on attending college who demonstrates academic achievement and financial need. See Ms. Hinkledire for an application. Deadline May 1.

Conemaugh Nason Medical Center Auxiliary Scholarship
 - Two $400 scholarships awarded to a student intending to further their education to become a nurse or a healthcare technician in one of the following schools: Claysburg-Kimmel, Hollidaysburg, Northern Bedford, Spring Cove, Tussey Mountain or Williamsburg. Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline May 5.

Pittman/Hansard Family Scholarship - A onetime $1000 scholarship awarded to graduating seniors intending on continuing their education at an accredited trade school, college or university. Consideration will be given to academic achievement, financial need and the student's involvement in community service. Applications emailed to all seniors. Pennsylvania Rural Electric Association - Scholarship Trust Fund - in Memory of William F. Matson - Seniors who have parents who are members of Pennsylvania Rural Electric Cooperative are eligible. AYSO Region 1539 Scholarship - This scholarship is available to players and/or volunteers who have at least 3 years of experience with AYSO Spring Cove Region 1539.  Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline May 15

The Rudy and Anna Mae Labor Scholarship - This scholarship will provide annual scholarships for students who will be attending South Hills School of Business & Technology in State College, Altoona, or Lewistown. The fund will provide twelve $7,000 scholarships for 2015 to be applied toward the cost of tuition and books. Students can apply by visiting

Kai Burkett Memorial Scholarship
– A $500 scholarship in memory of Kai Burkett, an accomplished student and athlete at Chestnut Ridge High School who tragically lost his life in a car accident in August of 2020. Kai’s greatest gift was serving others. Eligibility requirements are as follows: a current senior who is planning on attending a college, university, or trade school; a minimum GPA of 3.5; a student athlete; and engaged in the outdoors. For students interested in attending Juniata College: Galen Dively ’66 Three Generations Endowed Scholarship (2018) – This endowed scholarship has been established by Dr. Galen P. Dively II ’66 to honor three generations of the Dively family which include his grandfather, Rev. Taylor L. Dively ’16, and his father Galen P. Dively I ’42. Together they taught sciences and mathematics at Claysburg-Kimmel High School for a combined 94 years, and inspired Galen to pursue his passion in the biological sciences. Scholarship ranges between $1,000 to $2,500 per student. Interested students should reach out to a Juniata College Admissions Counselor for more information.

 

For students interested in attending Shippensburg University: The Board of Governors Scholarships – Full tuition wavier for Valedictorians and Salutatorians. Each scholarship is renewable for up to 8 semesters as long as recipients meet specific academic requirements, maintain a minimum QPA of a least a 3.0, and earn at least 12 credits per semester. Interested students should reach out to a Shippensburg University Admissions Counselor for more information.

 

For students interested in attending Wilson College. The Holliday Scholarship – Covers all costs of college: Tuition, housing, room, and board, etc.…Students must have a high school GPA of 3.75 on a 4.0 scale and must maintain a 3.5 while enrolled at Wilson College.  Interested students should reach out to a Wilson College Admissions Counselor for more information.
